The store closed in 2007 and was brought by a developer who wished to build a block of luxury apartments on the site. Strong local objections and the collapse of the housing marketb however put paid to those plans and new proposals were put forward to build a community centre modelled on the Culturlann in the Roman Catholic and Republican Falls area of the city.
