St Mary's Church was built in 1879 with west bay and tower added in 1905-8 and was last used for worship in 1987. It is a grade II listed building (English Heritage Building ID: 186333 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-186333-church-of-st-mary-nelson-lancashire British Listed Buildings).
