As part of the City Football Academy project, a pedestrian walkway was installed over the busy Ashton New Road/Alan Turing Way road junction to offer an alternative crossing that links the new academy with the Etihad Stadium. The Bridge, which was assembled on the ground and subsequently lifted into place provides a safe crossing point for people walking through the neighbourhood and users of Etihad Campus/Sportcity facilities. During match days these roads will no longer be subject to temporary closures as the new structure is able to channel thousands of people across site, thus ensuring traffic will flow freely to and from the stadium. It opened in 2014.
