Recycling banks for waste paper and cardboard situated in the car parks of supermarkets and elsewhere such as here at the Rainbow Supermarket in Manning Road, were a failed initiative by the district council because the metal containers were bulky, clumsy and unsightly, especially when not emptied regularly, and they were eventually phased out by the introduction of kerbside wheelie bins in 2006.
