This is a section of the former Ticknall Tramway, originally built at the beginning of the 19th century to carry limestone and other lime products from the Ticknall limeyards and quarries to the canals at Ashby-de-la-Zouch. The route has recently been resurfaced and reopened courtesy of the National Trust and other sponsors. I'm not sure just how much of the original 12.5 miles of track is accessible but I was able to follow it at least as far as the edge of South Wood at SK359208.
