This motorway, viewed from the bridge on the Old Denny Road (looking south), was built around 1970. The construction cut through part of the local Hillhouse Roman Camp and severed the Roman Road (site of) that was the main road from England to Stirling, Scotland via Edinburgh, Falkirk and Torwood. This was still the main road in 1314 (except the crossing point of the river Carron — the Roman bridge was gone) when the English army advanced on Bannockburn to relieve Stirling Castle.
