The deteriorating fabric of the building and the availability of a fine chapel across the road in the Convent of the Good Shepherd prompted the Diocese of Down and Connor to put the church and its adjoining parochial house on the market. The church was built between 1896-98 in Scrabo sandstone with Dumfries dressing.
