17 Gough Square in the City of London was once the home of the famous Lexicographer Dr Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) Image] when he rented it for eleven years from 1748 to 1759. It ranges over five floors including basement and attic garret. Now a museum (adult entry price £4.50 in 2014 - half price with National Trust card) it contains memorabilia of the great man, and interesting information about his and other dictionaries.
