The house on the right was built in the 1970s on a former outbuilding of Bridger's Mill which was in operation from the early 19th century until well into the 20th. It was demolished in the mid 1960s. The cars park next to the railway embankment are located on the old course of Balcombe Road with the section beyond once the eastern tip of the former mill pond. The road itself is a busy C route linking Haywards Heath to Balcombe and predates the town.
