Two survivors, beside the Saintfield Road, from another era in local government and water supply. “NDRDC” was the North Down Rural District Council - formerly Newtownards Rural District Council. The latter was one of many rural district councils created, throughout Ireland, in 1900. There were some minor changes to local government in NI after partition. One was that, in 1921, Newtownards RDC was renamed North Down Rural District Council. All RDC’s were abolished in 1974.
