On the right is the Grade II-listed Barnby Methodist Chapel, the largest in Newark. When it opened c.1845 - having cost of £5,200 to build, it was capable of seating 1,400 people. Beyond it is the church hall, and beyond that, the Rutland Arms Public House: uneasy neighbours perhaps for the temperate Wesleyans of the time? The junction with Bede House Lane can be seen in the foreground.
