Built along the line of the original town walls, it was originally developed in the early 19th Century (when it was known as Chalybeate Terrace) but was partly redeveloped towards the end of that century, at around which time it received its present name. There was a Chalybeate Stream near Plas Crug Avenue, which presumably has some connection with this street name.
