The new church was completed in 1900, reusing some materials from the old church 600 yards away http://www.geograph.org.uk/stuff/list.php?title=Old+St+Helen%27s+Church&gridref=TL3676 which had fallen down, including piers and arches, a piscina and a lancet window. The battlemented tower at the south-west corner is finished off with a Hertfordshire-style spike, or short leaden spire. The architect was William Fawcett of Cambridge.
