On the right of the former entrance to Ladysmith Barracks Image is a blue plaque which reads: TAMESIDE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH Ladysmith Barracks An army barracks has stood on this site since 1845. It was the home of the Manchester Regiment from 1881-1958.
