According to an OS map of the 1960s the building at the back is a large warehouse whose eastern side appears to directly front the Grand Union Canal – just one of the extensive goods yards and depots around St Pancras, Euston and Kings Cross stations. In the location shown it has to be assumed that the space behind the shutters at street level is for lorries and vans delivering or collecting goods (I think it was a Sunday morning). The goods van behind the glass carries a sticker saying CEMENT in bright green. Scanned from a Kodachrome slide, ref 67·01·21, retouched to remove dirt; no other processing.
