Although the registered address of The Newark Advertiser newspaper, seen ahead, is shown as Appleton Gate, i.e. on the left, the main entrance is actually on the right in Magnus Street. The Advertiser's predecessor began in 1847 as The Newark Monthly Advertiser. It had four pages and cost 1d. In 1854 the journal was upgraded to become an eight page weekly publication called The Newark Advertiser and Farmers' Journal costing 3d. The Newark Advertiser Co. Ltd was incorporated on September 19, 1882.
