The main road in the foreground is High Street: the busy street forking away to its left is Surrey Street, which is normally impassable for motor vehicles because it is occupied by a market. The market, where you can obtain excellent fruit and vegetables much cheaper than in any superstore, is very popular with local people, and an attempt by the Council to have it moved away was very vigorously opposed.
