This Grade I-listed (shop-bearing) road bridge over the River Witham on the right is of C12th origin with C13th and C16th additions. It was restored and partly reconstructed 1902 by William Watkins of Lincoln. A man wearing a "hoodie" is seen ascending the steps from a path at the side of the River Witham 2.5 metres (8ft) below street level. This is one of two narrow sets of steps that serve pedestrians ascending from or descending from one of the riverside paths but in addition, there is also a view here of a spiral staircase (a fire escape) from this building's upper levels. This photograph was taken from High Street.
