Heading southeast towards the centre of Deans, one of the Livingston satellite suburbs; it continues behind the photographer as the Nellburn Path, which crosses the M8 by footbridge 25 Image, giving access to Wester Dechmont and the industrial estate. The gate pillars are a remnant of the drive to Dechmont House http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/mediafile/100109907/deans-north-audio-walk-leaflet.pdf . The house was built in 1863 and bought by James 'Paraffin' Young's partner Edward Meldrum - for his biography and obituary see http://www.scottishshale.co.uk/Genealogy/Biographies/MeldrumEdward.html . It was subsequently acquired by Livingston Development Corporation and demolished in the 1960s.
