On the old Great North Road turnpike (Royston to Wansford Bridge), part of Ermine Street, and latterly the A14, at the northern end of the village. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4308055 for location. This is an original milestone and is Listed Grade II. The turnpike was established in 1710 but it is unclear whether the milestone dates this far back.
