The Golden Lion used to be on the A65 until the Settle Bypass was built a few years ago: indeed, it is an old coaching inn. The road is still busy, however, and the Golden Lion is still an excellent place to stop for a meal and a glass of good Lancashire beer (Thwaite's) from the handpump
