St Bartholomew, Covenham St Bartholomew

The village centres of Covenham St Bartholomew and Covenham St Mary run together, effectively forming one village. Each has a medieval Church building but St Bartholomew’s and St Mary’s are only 100 yards apart along the main road. In the middle part of the 20th Century the practice grew up of using St Bartholomew’s in the Winter and St Mary’s in the Summer. Eventually common sense (and financial necessity) prevailed and St Bartholomew’s was closed on 17-Dec-1980 and put in the care of a Preservation Trust, whilst St Mary’s now serves the whole of Covenham.
