A class 465 'Networker' electric unit (465905) stands in the bay platform at Maidstone East with a London service. On the right are the station buildings serving the eastbound platform with Station Road visible beyond. Maidstone East station was opened by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway on 1st June 1874. There have been plans to rebuild the station off and on since 2005. A new proposal to regenerate the station and surrounding area is currently at the consultation stage (2015).
