This is an underground section of the former Waverley Railway Line that was closed in 1969. The 58m long tunnel was converted into an illuminated pedestrian walkway forming part of the route known as the Black Path but is now closed to the public as works are at an advanced stage in the reinstatement of the Borders Railway due to become operational in late 2015. For a view of the tunnel in January 2011, see Image This photo was scanned from a black and white negative.
