The eastern end of Wordsworth Street looking towards its junction with Steep Hill (Bailgate). The crest on wall of Chad Varah House, marks the entrance to the former Lincoln Theological Institute for the Study of Religion and Society. Although the buildings were originally constructed in 1777 as The County Hospital in 1879 they were acquired for the establishment of the Lincoln Theological College. Next the Lincoln Theological Institute for the Study of Religion and Society (linked to The University of Manchester) was established on the site in 1997. In 2016 planning permission was given to developers to convert the building into 14 upmarket flats and houses.
