Viewed from the corner of Market Street and Lion Street in December 2014. High fencing encloses the site of the former Abergavenny livestock market. A notice on the fence shows Construction Site - Keep Out. According to local newspapers, a Morrisons supermarket is to be built here. In November 2013, the new Monmouthshire livestock market was officially opened on a 27-acre (11 hectare) site near Raglan, 10 miles (16km) away. The first livestock sales took place a few weeks later.
