A public footpath encircles Harplands Hospital, furnishing a short-cut between Hilton Road and the A34. The authorities are, naturally, disinclined to encourage public perambulation through the grounds of a mental hospital, hence the signposts, while still extant, are neglected, and the routes far from obvious. Here the route transits the sturdy fence behind the post, then down the grassy slope to the access road and thence to the A34.
