For earlier views of the bridge, likewise taken from upriver, though from the other bank, see Image and Image The present picture, taken on Friday morning, shows preparations under way to remove the central span; the more outlying parts had already been removed. By Sunday afternoon the work was complete, and only the stone piers remained.
