There are only three major roads going west from the centre of London, the A4, A4o and in between the A4020 from Shepherds Bush to Uxbridge. Due to the massive shopping centre and outdoor markets seven days a week it is always jammed, with traffic lights making it hard to get into in the first place. So now they have narrowed it into a partial dual carriageway, only allowing two thin lanes barely wide enough for a van to pass (I don't know what will happen with buses and lorries, they just didn't look big enough) while the council claim it will speed up traffic to make people confused. http://www.ealing.gov.uk/news/article/811/southalls_big_plan_moves_a_step_closer_to_reality They won't be when the work is soon finished, the jams may extend for miles going on what it was already like before. Due to the Grand Union Canal the only alternative route is a small series of local roads in Norwood Green which are barely usable during the day now as they all get caught in the almost permanent jams in Hayes.
