This was once the site of an isolated farmstead called Blackfan, with numerous wells and a spring. With the development of Welwyn Garden City the local council built a sewerage works upstream of where the lagoon is now and the photographer thinks the lagoon was then created as some form of settling pond for the works. The sewerage works are long since gone but the lagoon remains, looking suitably murky on a misty November morning.
