The name Gateacre is thought to derive from ‘gata’ – the way – to the ‘acre field’ of Much Woolton. It is pronounced Gattacker and like Fazakerley and Maghull will invariably catch out non locals. The structure in the foreground is the Wilson Memorial Fountain.
