An inscription at the base of the cross says 'In proud and grateful memory of those from this district who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918 and in the World War 1939-1945'. Details of the carving on the cross are shown in this photo Image . The newly built War Memorial Hospital can be seen behind the trees - it replaced an old hospital of the same name (hospital location is in the next OS gridsquare to the north - Image ).
