Early 17th century archway and almshouses in Winchester

Located near the southern end of Symonds Street. The inscription is PETER SYMONDS FOUNDER 1607. The almshouses were amalgamated with the St John Hospital charity in 1991 and still provide five rooms for "poor bachelors and widowers of good character of not less than 50 years", though wives are now allowed, and they can remain if widowed.
