This trestle is used when coppicing the Hazel. This woodland has an understorey of Hazel, though once managed as an Oak woodland. While Oak takes 80 years to amture Hazel, if cut regularly, provides fuel, fencing and thatching materials. Coppicing has many benefits for wildlife but the practice has become less frequently used as the demand for Hazel products has diminished.
