Plaques commemorating Professors Thomas and Andrew Gray, both born in Lochgelly in the 19thC. Thomas Gray [1850-1908] was a professor in the Imperial University of Tokyo and Indiana USA. He superintended the laying of two Atlantic cables and the first electric cable in Japan; he was the author of text books and inventor of devices for scientific research. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Lomar_Gray Andrew Gray [1847-1925] succeeded Lord Kelvin in the Chair of Natural Philosophy at Glasgow University; he was a distinguished scientist and author of many publications. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Gray_(physicist) The plaques are by the entrance to the old drill hall in Lochgelly Image
