Abridged from the information plate by the statue's base... A copy of the original statue by Francois Duquesnoy which stands in St Peters. This one in Dalmeny Sandstone is believed to have been done by the Musselburgh born sculptor Alexander Richie ( 1804-70 ). It was rescued and moved here to the Botanical gardens in the winter of 1964/65
