Otley Market Place goes back to mediaeval times along with the Buttercross, the covered structure on the left, Buttercross meaning a people's shelter where country people sold their products. The Jubilee Clock unveiled in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee is now also Otley's War Memorial remembering the dead from the Transvaal Wars to the Second World War.
