The tennis courts in Quarry Road are now the main sports played here. They appeared here before WWII and took over from some allotments. Before that, however, in the latter part of the 1800s Swindon Town F.C. played their home games on part of these grounds. During a game, the nearby quarries claimed a victim and so the club moved up the road to Lansdown Road.
