The Municipal Buildings were designed by the Boston architect James Rowell and they were officially opened in June 1904. The buildings originally contained not only the council offices, but the Police Station, public library, an art school and the Fire Station. All these activities now take place elsewhere but the Municipal Buildings remain the administrative centre for Boston Borough Council.
