A 'menhir' an anglicised form of the Welsh 'Maen Hir' (lit. long stone) dates back to the Bronze Age and possibly marks the site of a burial. It is this 10' high stone which gives Maenaddwyn its name (maen = stone + Addwyn a personal name). Who Addwyn was is not recorded.
