I used to live in no.30 to the right up until the mid 1950s, then we moved when my father bought a new house. I can't remember much about the place, except that in those days it was a mixed community and all came from a working class background and we all got on well together. The houses don't have a "looking out" window to the front as the living rooms are to the rear and even to this day, none of the layouts seem to have been changed. The small window beside the front door was for a small room which I think was the toilet. The rest of the room at the front was taken up by the entrance and staircase which had a landing half-way up and front facing window We had running water, flush toilets and electricity and our entertainment was a valve radio, nothing else like central heating, car, telephone or television. It was a palace when you consider that we came from here Image]
