Fire plug was an early name for a fire hydrant. This one was presumably installed in case the church caught fire, but the distance has not been indicated. Perhaps it was under a flag next to the plate. Presumably it is disused, as there is not a modern plate alongside. L.B.W.W. stands for Local Board Water Works. Presumably S.B. for Sowerby bridge was considered superfluous and would have required a larger plate.
