Folkestone, Kent, The Leas, The Step-Short Centenary Memorial Arch. The Memorial Arch commemorates the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and was dedicated on August 4th, 2014. 12 plaques commemorate the men and women passing through Folkestone during the first World War. This plaque reads: "Before the outbreak of World War 1, Folkestone was a fashionable seaside town With a thriving tourist industry. After war is declared on 4th August 1914, Shorncliffe Camp becomes a hub of preparations for war, and this is the start of major changes to the town and its people"
