Heworth railway station, Tyne & Wear

Opened in 1979 by British Rail on the line from Newcastle to Sunderland, this station was intended to replace the stations at Pelaw and Felling. In the event, all three stations still operate as part of Tyne and Wear Metro, but only this one is part of the national rail network. View east on the 'heavy' rail platforms towards Pelaw and Sunderland. The Metro line and platforms are out of view to the right.
