This view of the square at Old Shepperton shows the Church of St Nicholas, the Kings Head public house and the Warren Lodge hotel. The present church of St Nicholas was built in 1614 but didn't have a tower. Legend has it that while passing Queen Anne remarked on the lack of a tower. The vicar then organised the construction of the tower and peal of bells. Because of the shortage of funds the tower is very narrow and access to the belfry has to be achieved by an external staircase. Refer to picture Image for a view of the church's nave.
