Scoth farm. Scoth is a fascinating word, it appears to be Celtic and to mean either 'Flower' or 'Promontory, Ridge, High place'. The second definition would appear to fit the location perfectly. We are in the Danelaw here, but there is evidence of old celtic place names surviving the Saxon and Danish invasions - the river Glen, for example, may well be a Celtic name.
