Opened in 1915 by the Great Western Railway on its line from Oxford to Birmingham Snow Hill, this station replaced an 1855 one some 300m behind the camera position. View south east towards Small Heath and Oxford. As built, this station had 2 parallel island platforms (the line was quadrupled in 1915), each with canopied buildings which lasted into the early 1960s. When this image was taken, it was more basic.
