The grade II listed former Carnegie public library, now a museum, dated 1904. Constructed in red brick with cream terracotta dressings. The left wing has in the gable a plaque with a portcullis, around which is the inscription 'SIGILLUM COMMUNE BURGENSIUM PONTISFRACTI'. Which roughly translates to ‘Community seal of the Pontefract borough’ LBS No:- 342696
