An Act was passed in 1830 for making and maintaining a new Turnpike Road from Kingston upon Hull to Hedon. The new road was to be in a direct line from Drypool, Kingston upon Hull, to the west end of Fletcher Gate, Hedon; it would greatly shorten the distance travelled between the two towns. This milepost is situated adjacent to Pollard Farm Cottage on the south side of Hull Road, a very short distance from the boundary with Hedon, where the road, opened in 1833, becomes New Road.
