Bowman and Son were a Stamford institution: a building contractor with a several hundred year tradition in building in stone and Collyweston slate. They were one of the "Men of Stones" specialising in local techniques. It was a huge surprise when they went bust in the 1990s, and the site of their once bizarre collection of workshops is now a very expensive housing estate.
